Our 4th and 5th grade Bilingual Classes are departmentalized. Math and Social Studies is taught by Mrs. Nelms and Mrs. Rooney, while ELA and Science is taught by Mrs. Urena and Mr. De Los Santos.

English- English Language Arts (Reading and Writing) and Social Studies

What we are learning now- Module 5- Fraction Equivalence, Ordering and Operations- Students will use their understanding of whole number and visual representations to help them understand the new concepts of fraction and mixed number operations in this module.

What we are learning now: Module 3- Addition and Subtraction of Fractions - Students will add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators by replacing different fractional units with an equivalent fraction or like unit using pictorial models in this module.

Ask yourself:
- What do I know?
- Do I understand the problem and what is the problem asking me to do?
Draw and label as you reread the problem!
Ask yourself:
- What do I need?
- What is my plan? - (Do I need to draw a picture, math tools, or models?)
- What operation or operations do I need to use?-(Is there more than one step to this problem?)
- Why am I picking this operation?- (Does this operation make sense for what the problem is asking me to do? Reread the problem.)
Write an answer statement!
Ask yourself:
- Have I checked my work?-(Can I solve this another way by using the inverse operation or estimation?)

Students have homework every day!

We want the students to get into the habit of reading daily, studying, and demonstrating effort. They may need your help to complete the assignments. The students will have the following assignments daily:
Math: Eureka Math workbook page or worksheet related to the topic and skill taught that day or review sheet. Students should try to solve at least half of the math problems that they think they can answer correctly, they may do all of them but it is not required.
Practice Multiplication Facts Daily! They can create flashcards or write them out. Understanding their facts and place value is essential to their understanding of 4th and 5th Grade Math!
Quieremos que los estudiantes adquieran el hábito de leer a diario, estudiar y demostrar esfuerzo. Es posible que necesiten su ayuda para completar las tareas. Los estudiantes tendrán las siguientes tareas a diario:

Family Game Night Lending Library / Noche de Juegos Familiares Biblioteca de Préstamo
As long as students have completed the majority of their homework assigned Monday through Friday, they may borrow from the game library. The purpose of the Game Library is to motivate your child, engage you in your child’s learning, encourage your children to love learning and understand the value of additional practice. Ultimately playing these games will help them in building the foundational skills they may be lacking; to build the connections they need in order to learn the content that I am teaching in a fun way. This will also build in time each weekend that you and your child can bond through game playing while giving you an inside look at what your child needs support in. Please sign the permission slip to bring family game night back!
Siempre que los estudiantes hayan completado la mayoría de sus tareas asignadas de lunes a viernes, pueden tomar prestado de la biblioteca del juego. Yo soy la Señora Rooney, soy de origen ecuatoriano, y mi primer idioma es el español.
Este es mi tercer año enseñando a la comunidad bilingüe, y la verdad lo he disfrutado mucho. Me siento muy contenta de ser parte de esta comunidad porque pienso que ser bilingüe es un privilegio que tenemos los hispanos. También pienso que es valioso que nuestros niños fortalezcan su lengua natal, al mismo tiempo que progresan en el idioma Ingles. Yo tuve la oportunidad de encontrar profesores excelentes que me enseñaron lo maravilloso que es saber dos lenguajes Inglés y español y siento que es algo que tenemos que transmitir a nuestros niños.

My name is Mrs. Rooney and I am from Ecuador and my first language is Spanish.
This is my third year teaching the bilingual community and I really enjoy it. I am very happy to be part of this bilingual community because I think that being bilingual is a privilege that we Hispanics have. I also think that it is valuable for our children to strengthen their native language and at the same time also progress in English. I had the opportunity to find excellent teachers who taught me how wonderful it is to know two languages and I feel that this is something that we have to pass on to our children.
About Mrs. Nelms
My name is Mrs. Nelms and I have been teaching the fourth grade at P.S. 94 for eight years. I became a teacher because I wanted to educate children in my community and make a difference in their lives. I am Bronx born and bred and I love our community. I know that we have so much to contribute to the world. I am looking forward to educating your children and I hope that we can work together to build a successful future for your child.
I believe that communication and support are key components in our relationship and that it is essential for your child to understand that we are working together for their betterment. I have high expectations of all my students and I will challenge them to be the very best version of themselves that they can be academically, mentally, and emotionally. I do not seek perfection of my students, I seek continuous effort. My motto is that, "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard". Mi nombre es Mrs. Nelms y he estado enseñando cuarto grado en P.S. 94 durante ocho años. Me convertí en maestra porque quería educar a los niños de mi comunidad y marcar una diferencia en sus vidas.
