Every night the students have homework!
Students are expected to do Monday-Thursday spelling activities.
Each student gets new words on Monday, for the start of the week.
Monday: Write the words 3x in ABC order
Tuesday: Write the definitions for 5 of the words using a dictionary or online
Wednesday: Use the words in fully developed sentences, showing you know the meaning of the words
Thursday: Be creative! (e.g. Write a poem, story or song, draw a pictures and put the words around it, or create a crossword puzzle, etc.)
In addition, students should be reading for at least 30-45 minutes. Whether it be a book, I-Ready, or MyOn (on their independent reading level).
25 Reading Responses also need to be completed by the end of the year. These can be a summary, an interview of a main character or a poster of the book showing the plot. Be creative and have fun! These should clearly show that you read and understood the book.
They will also be receiving math and science homework from their Math and Science teachers, Ms. Sanchez and Ms. Cone
All About the Teachers!
Ms. Hatjygeorge: I have been working as a special education teacher at P.S. 94 for 3 years now. I taught ELA and math in 4th grade my first year. Fourth grade math in my second year. Fifth grade ELA in my third year. I have my masters degree in special education and literacy. Previously, I taught as a reading specialist in another school district for two years. I recently got married in July of 2019 and will be changing my last name to Melendez, eventually when I have time. I enjoy summer weather and tropical vacations. I love spending time with family and friends.
Ms. Diaz: I have experience working with children for 5 years and I continue to learn and grow in my teaching profession. This is my third year working as a General Education teacher at P.S 94. My first two years in this school, I taught ELA and Math in the 4th grade. This year, I am in Fifth grade teaching ELA and Social Studies. I was born and raised in the Bronx and then moved upstate where I received my bachelors degree and dual certification in Early Childhood and Childhood Education (K-6) from SUNY New Paltz. In the spring of 2020, I will be receiving my masters in TESOL from Lehman college. I love to go hiking, new adventures, and the performing arts. I also love to travel to new and old places with my family and friends. I hope to instill the love of learning in all my students and to give them the tools to become leaders of their generation. I am looking forward to a great school year!
